Welcome to the Addams Family!
Happy summer dramatists! We know you are excited about getting started on the musical for the 2023-2024 school year, we've been checking the stats and this site has been visited a couple of hundred times since school ended in May. :-) The site is updated with lots of information for you. Make sure you check the auditions page carefully, you can sign up for an audition day, download the forms you will need to fill out, and an online form that needs to be completed. There are also several videos for you to watch to get an idea of what our show will be like. (If you find other videos that you think should be linked here, please send me the links!) Thanks, we can't wait to share our plans with you! Mr. G & The creative Team |
How it began....
They're creepy and they're kooky, they're altogether ooky, they're the Addams family!
They began in September of 1964, based on a cartoon originated by Charles Addams, the original TV show ran for two years and was a campy, fun view into the upside down world of Gomez and Morticia Addams. The Addams family is a close-knit extended family with decidedly bizarre interests and supernatural abilities. The wealthy, endlessly enthusiastic Gomez Addams is madly in love with his refined wife, Morticia. Along with their daughter Wednesday, their son Pugsley, Uncle Fester, and Grandmama, they reside at 0001 Cemetery Lane in an ornate, gloomy, mansion.
The family is attended by their servants - towering butler Lurch, and Thing, a hand that appears from within wooden boxes and other places.
Much of the humor derives from the Addamses' culture clash with the rest of the world. They invariably treat normal visitors with great warmth and courtesy, even when the guests express confusion, fear, and dismay at the decor of the house and the sight of Lurch and Thing. Some visitors have bad intentions, which the family generally ignores, and suffer no harm. The Addamses are puzzled by the horrified reactions to their own good-natured and (to them) normal behavior. Accordingly, they view "conventional" tastes with generally tolerant suspicion. Almost invariably, visitors to the Addamses want to leave and never come back.

Fast forward to our musical. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family– a man her parents have never met. And if that wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. What develops is a wacky musical that challenges what is normal and encourages all of us to be ourselves!
